About Wild Ride

Wild Ride is Bonorong’s new fundraising campaign where we encourage supporters to do a ‘Wild Ride’ to raise money for wildlife in our care. The funds raised will help run Bonorong’s rescue, critical care hospital, and rehabilitation animal care services.

Ride a bicycle, a scooter, a skateboard, or roller skate, hop on a pogo stick, even wear a costume while you’re doing your Wild Ride! You create your very own Wild Ride with a team or as an individual, with your work mates, friends, or family. Anyone can take part – groups, businesses, and organisations.

Wild Ride will take place throughout March 2024, meaning you can do your Wild Ride when it suits you. Riding every day for a whole month, or just ride on a particular day of March.

Anywhere! You can do your Wild Ride anywhere - your ride, your way.

Bonorong operates Tasmania’s largest 24-hour wildlife rescue service. The service provides care and rehabilitation to thousands of animals injured or orphaned on our roads. More than 500,000 animals are killed on Tasmanian roads every year, that’s nearly one every minute, every day, 365 days a year!

Funds raised by Wild Ride will directly support the operation of Bonorong’s Primary Care Teams (Rescue Phone, Critical Care, Wildlife Hospital and Recovery) to care for and rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife.

If you can’t do your own Wild Ride, there are plenty of other ways to help support animals such as sponsoring a Wild Rider, donate directly or be a Corporate Partner.

Wild Rides should be safe, fun, and creative and we can’t wait to see your Wild Ride!

All Wild Rides should be safe, fun, and creative. Here's a few to get you started:

  • Ride a bicycle
  • Hop on a pogo stick
  • Ride a scooter
  • Rollerskate
  • Ride a skateboard
  • Wear a wild costume on your bike ride
  • Hike, mountaineer, or rock climb
  • Joey stroll (baby bump, pram, carry harness)
  • Decorate your bike or trike in a wildlife theme
  • Ride or hike up kunanyi / Mt Wellington
  • Ride 1% of a Shearwater’s migratory distance
  • Track the distance covered with a mobility aid
  • Take the bus instead of driving
  • Track your distance covered on the golf course
  • Camp in the wild
  • Track walkies / steps with your fur baby

To get your creative juices flowing, here are some other ideas our Project Team came up with:

  • Endurance – challenge yourself for wildlife by cycling, running or walking a certain number of kilometres or hours. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the sponsors!
  • Silly – do something a bit different such as riding your kids’ bike to work, jump to the shops on a pogo stick, ride a bike dressed in a costume, put wheels on your esky and ride it around the office! The sillier the ride, the sillier the sponsors?!
  • Family – rather than taking the family car to an event, ride your bikes instead; fill a pram with wildlife toys and go for a walk on the bike track or take scooters to a friend’s house instead of walking or driving.
  • Something different to your every-day – repeat something every day for the whole month of March whether it be endurance or just simply different – roller blade to your local coffee shop for a month instead of taking the car, ride your bike to work every Monday and Friday for month (see how much you save on fuel and help the environment at the same time!), take your wheelbarrow to the supermarket and walk home with your groceries every time you shop during March.

Donations

All donations to Wild Ride are made through Friends of Bonorong Ltd which is an ACNC-registered charity. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia. If your supporters donate via the Wild Ride website, they’ll automatically be emailed a tax-deductible receipt.

Donations can be made by most major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), and Apple Pay + Google Pay.

When you register, you’ll be given access to your own personal fundraising page. You can send everyone a link to this page and ask them to make a donation online, before, during or after Wild Ride. The easiest way for your supporters to donate is with their credit card by directing them to your personal fundraising page and get them to click ‘Donate Now’. As soon as they've donated, they’ll be sent a tax-deductible receipt.

Unfortunately not. If you have someone that wants to donate to your campaign, simply refer them to your profile page and ask them to donate online. This ensures the payment will go to the right spot and your donor will receive a tax-deductible receipt.

You sure can! If you'd like to make recurring or ongoing donations to Bonorong after Wild Ride has finished, simply head over to www.friendsofbonorong.com (our fundraising arm) and press 'Donate'.

Sponsoring

Inspired humans are an unstoppable bunch! You can sponsor an individual or team Wild Ride. Simply click on the campaign pages above (Leaderboards, Individuals or Teams) to search for your recipient, then press the 'Donate' button on their profile.

Sponsor the sponsors! Any business or individual interested in offering a sponsorship matching pledge to help energise the response to Wild Ride is encouraged to reach out using our contact page.

The Project Team is seeking Corporate Partners to donate services and material resources required to accomplish a fundraising campaign of this scale. If you can help, please reach out using our contact page with any questions regarding the campaign, or to discuss opportunities to help with preparation or resourcing for the campaign.
